Minivans have a reputation for being uncool, but they offer a lot of practical benefits for families. Today’s models are fun to drive, packed with features, and make sure everyone is comfortable during trips. Interestingly, the minivan scene is much more exciting outside the U.S.
For example, in Japan, minivans are luxury vehicles. The Lexus LM is one such model that takes family transportation to a whole new level, offering a premium experience that you won’t find in American minivans. The “LM” stands for “Luxury Mover,” and while it isn’t available in the U.S. yet, you might be surprised to hear that some have made their way onto California roads.
Recently, a current-generation Lexus LM was spotted in California, stirring curiosity. At first, it looked like a modified Toyota Sienna, but closer inspection revealed it was indeed a Lexus. After some digging, it became clear that these luxury minivans are being imported and sold in the U.S.
Irvine Coast Motorcars, a dealership in Costa Mesa, California, has two 2025 Lexus LM models for sale. Both are the LM350h hybrid variant and offer seven-passenger seating. There’s even a four-passenger version called the “Emperor Suite,” designed for maximum luxury. The price for these luxury vans is quite astonishing—one is listed at $258,888 for only 8,709 miles, while another is priced at $269,800 with just 1,936 miles on the odometer.
The luxury inside these vans is top-notch. The second-row seats are incredibly comfortable and can recline with controls that resemble tablets. Features like sun shades and climate control make it feel like riding in first-class on an airplane, and even the armrests are heated.
The Lexus LM is based on the Toyota Alphard and is designed on the TNGA-K global platform. The LM350h produces around 250 horsepower, with a stronger LM500h version available at 366 horsepower. Customers can opt for front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Despite the high price tags, it raises the question: How are these luxury vans registered and driving around in California? The dealership hasn’t responded to inquiries yet, but it’s clear that the answer involves a lot of cash.
Currently, Lexus markets the LM mainly in Asia, Australia, and parts of Europe. It would be fascinating to see how a version designed specifically for the U.S. market would perform, especially if it came with a more budget-friendly price tag.
