The latest iteration of Gymkhana has arrived, and it’s bringing an exciting new car: the “Brataroo 9500 Turbo.” This unique Subaru Brat is designed to push the limits of what a car can do and was unveiled at the 2025 SEMA show, famous for showcasing some of the craziest automotive builds.
The Brataroo is created by Vermont SportsCar and has some jaw-dropping specs. Under the hood, it boasts a 2.0-liter boxer engine that generates a massive 670 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. While the exact details of the engine design remain a bit of a mystery, it’s clear that this powerhouse can really perform. The car drives all four wheels via a specialized Sadev gearbox, ensuring that power is effectively distributed.
Its body is made entirely of carbon fiber, making it lightweight and strong. Similar to its predecessor, the Family Huckster, the Brataroo features “active aero” components, meaning parts of the body can move to enhance performance. For example, the front fenders have adjustable louvers that can change position to manage airflow, especially when the car is airborne. The rear wing is also adjustable and can switch between two styles: a bigger wing for heavy downforce and a smaller one for more casual high-speed antics.
The design of this wild vehicle is credited to Khyzyl Saleem, who is known on social media as The Kyza. Inside the car, it’s not just about power and speed. The interior includes a restored factory radio and controls that have been creatively repurposed to adjust the active aero features. The radio and a Uniden CB radio are simply there for fun and ambiance, as they add character to the car.
Travis Pastrana, the famous driver known for his extreme stunts, describes the Brataroo as “completely unhinged,” stating it combines the classic feel of a vintage Subaru with modern technology. He believes every aspect of the car is designed to withstand tough conditions and to perform at astonishing levels, making it the most extreme Gymkhana car yet.
The new Gymkhana series featuring the Brataroo is titled “Aussie Shred,” set to premiere in early December. As expected, it was filmed in Australia and will showcase some daring stunts and thrilling driving maneuvers.
