Thinking About Buying a Corvette ZR1? Get Ready to Hold On to It for a Year!

Chevrolet is taking a strong stand to prevent owners of the 2025 Corvette ZR1 from quickly reselling their cars for profit. This new policy requires buyers to sign a retention letter that mandates they keep their ZR1 for at least one year. If they decide to sell it before that time, they will face serious consequences, including being banned from purchasing other popular Chevrolet models and losing their factory warranty.

The retention letter was shared online by Rick Corvette Conti and highlights a key reason for this policy: to discourage speculators who buy cars only to resell them at higher prices. For the ZR1, which boasts an impressive 1,064 horsepower, the rule is clear: hold onto the car for one year. For those buying the Z06 or E-Ray models, the requirement is six months.

Although owners can technically sell their cars at any time, violating this policy has consequences. Sellers who go against the guidelines cannot place future orders for some high-demand models, including new Chevrolet Corvettes. Furthermore, if the car changes hands before the one-year mark, Chevy will void significant parts of the warranty for the next owner. This means that if something goes wrong with the car, the new owner will have to pay for repairs out of pocket, even if the car is still in perfect condition.

A Chevrolet spokesperson confirmed the policy’s existence and mentioned it began with the release of the C8-generation Z06 in the 2023 model year. Flipping supercars – buying them to sell at a higher price – has become a big business, especially for desirable models like the ZR1. Chevy is keen to ensure that buyers don’t treat these cars merely as investments but rather as vehicles to be enjoyed on the road.

The company wants owners to appreciate their ZR1s and drive them regularly instead of keeping them as financial assets. After all, cars are meant for the road, not the garage!
