People Rally and Burn Waymo Robot Taxis in L.A. after ICE Raids

Robotaxis and Protests in Los Angeles
Waymo, a company that operates robotaxis (which are cars that drive themselves), has paused their services in some areas of Los Angeles. This happened after some of their cars were damaged during protests against a group called ICE, which is involved in immigration enforcement.
During the protests, five of Waymo’s cars, which are electric Jaguars, were called to an area where people were expressing their anger against ICE for detaining individuals. Unfortunately, some protesters vandalized the cars by slashing their tires and spray-painting them, and three of the cars were set on fire.
The police warned everyone to stay away from the area because burning cars can create harmful gases. Waymo is working with the police to keep everyone safe.
The protests erupted because many people in Los Angeles were very upset about ICE’s recent actions, which they felt were unjust. Thousands of people marched to speak out against these detentions.
In response to the unrest, the government sent in over 300 National Guard soldiers, which the California governor did not approve of. Governor Gavin Newsom said he plans to take legal action against this decision and expressed his anger about the situation. This highlights the ongoing debates about immigration and the actions of different groups involved.
