Everything You Need to Know About the New $30,000 Ford Electric Pickup!

Ford is gearing up to launch a new addition to its lineup—a compact electric pickup truck. Unlike its larger electric trucks like the F-150 Lightning, this model will be smaller, resembling the Maverick. The goal is to make it both affordable and efficient, with an expected starting price of around $30,000. It is designed to perform similarly to an EcoBoost Mustang while also providing more interior space than a Toyota RAV4.

This new truck will be built on Ford’s innovative “Universal EV Platform,” which is engineered to reduce both production costs and the complexity of assembly. This platform uses fewer parts and fasteners compared to traditional vehicle designs, which should help lower prices for consumers.

Ford hasn’t officially named this truck yet, but they have trademarked several names, including the classic Ranchero, which could make a comeback. Other names like Fathom and Hive have also been filed, potentially for different upcoming models.

In terms of size, this “mid-size” truck will be more like the Maverick, offering a roomy interior and practical features, such as a front trunk (often called a “frunk”) and a standard rear bed. This design aims to blend the compact style of the Maverick with the rugged look of the Ranger.

Ford has released limited visuals but indicates that the truck will probably feature a closed-off front grille and light bars reminiscent of the F-150 Lightning. The power behind this new model will be supplied by advanced lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries. These batteries are cheaper and more durable, although they may have a lower energy density than traditional batteries. Ford plans to make this battery a part of the truck’s structure, which enhances its strength while maximizing space.

As for performance, Ford claims that the new electric truck should accelerate as quickly as an EcoBoost Mustang, achieving 0-60 mph in the low 4-second range. It may offer either single or dual-motor configurations, enhancing its performance capabilities.

With a price tag starting around $30,000, this electric truck aims to be cheaper than many competitors like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado, which both start higher than this Ford model.

In terms of production, Ford is adopting an innovative “Universal EV Production System.” This strategy reorganizes the traditional assembly line into a more efficient format with separate lines converging into one, potentially speeding up vehicle assembly by about 40%. The truck is set to be manufactured at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.

While there’s no specific debut date yet, the truck is expected to go on sale in 2027, with a potential reveal in late 2026. This allows Ford ample time to finalize its new production methods and prepare for a successful launch.
